New bus stops at La Fageda d’en Jordà

The Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park will begin construction works for two new Rumbus bus stops and improvements to access routes to the visitor reception area of the Fageda d’en Jordà, at Can Serra, in the municipality of Santa Pau. The project, promoted by the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Government of Catalonia, aims to improve mobility, accessibility and visitor safety in one of the busiest areas of the Natural Park, thereby encouraging a more organised and sustainable public use of the area.

On 1 June, works will begin that will involve, on the one hand, the construction of new bus stops in the Fageda d’en Jordà Area —one on each side of the road— and, on the other hand, improvements to the access to the Joan Maragall monument, located at the start of the route bearing the same name.

The project includes the installation of two new bus stops on the GI-524 road, one in each direction of traffic, as well as the creation of new pedestrian access points, the improvement of existing routes and the construction of a new accessible path leading to the Can Serra Information Centre. These actions will make access by public transport easier and ensure suitable universal accessibility conditions, in accordance with the Catalan Accessibility Code.

The project also includes landscape mitigation measures such as the restoration of affected land, hydroseeding with species adapted to the environment, and the planting of native trees and shrubs, with the aim of minimising the visual and environmental impact of the works.

Regarding the impact on pedestrian access to the Fageda d’en Jordà via the Joan Maragall route, the path will remain open at all times, although temporary, properly signposted diversions may be necessary during certain phases of the works.

There will be no changes to the current bus stops until the works are completed, and they will continue operating at the semi-roundabout access to the Fageda d’en Jordà Area.

With this intervention, promoted by the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition and carried out by Infraestructures.cat, access to the central area of the Natural Park will become easier and safer for users of the Rumbus public transport service, while accessibility conditions in this area will also be improved.

This action forms part of the regional mobility project promoted in recent years with the aim of encouraging more sustainable, organised and accessible mobility within the natural area through initiatives that reinforce the territory’s commitment to promoting alternatives to private vehicles and encouraging a more respectful way of discovering the natural environment of La Garrotxa.
