Walking between Hostalets and Sant Esteve is one of the best ways to discover the essence of the Vall d’en Bas. Although there are many other corners, this itinerary has all the ingredients that give personality to this territory. Hostalets d’en Bas is one of the villages that gives the most charm to our territory with its wooden balconies, where every spring there is a strong competition to see who can show off the best geraniums.
Taking a practically flat route, we will arrive at Sant Esteve d’en Bas (“en Bas”, in the local language), with its narrow and sloping streets. The plain is dominated by roads and paths between a mosaic of crops of colors according to the seasons of the year, the old bridges of Romanesque origin, the winding Fluvià river between the fertile lands that were deposited at the bottom of the old lake, the riverbank forest, and the ever-present Puigsacalm and the mountain ranges of its surroundings.
The proposed itinerary forms a circuit, and returns by another path that gives other perspectives of the same environment, but the visitor will realize that it is easy to orientate himself and find, in addition, other alternative routes in a space that, despite being intensely explored, maintains characteristics that could be compared to what we can look for in a park or in spaces designed for leisure.
Throughout the entire route you will see small typical peasant houses and large farmhouses scattered among the crops.
