Batet de la Serra: A Privileged View

Set on an idyllic basaltic plateau created from erupting lava that subsequently solidified, a small village captivates us with its rural charm and omnipresent tranquility. We’re talking about Batet de la Serra, located between Olot and Santa Pau, which from its advantageous position offers one of the best panoramic views of the Garrotxa region.

The best way to visit is on foot or by bicycle, at the leisurely pace set by the land itself: the paths cross meadows and forests and are perfect for a family outing. The most choiced hiking route is called “Through the Old Paths of Batet” marked by Itinerànnia and lasting between 3 to 4 hours. Starting and ending at the same point in the center of Olot, it’s very doable and will allow you to discover in a single day the four volcanoes of the area (Puig Astrol, Pujalós, Puig de la Garsa, and part of the Croscat). You will also skirt historic farmhouses, such as Godomar and Planella; two Romanesque churches: the parish of Batet and the Trinity Sanctuary, and the century-old Font Faja spring, a fresh water source that emerges in an exceptionally tranquil corner.

Discover Batet de la Serra for its landscapes and fall in love with the local hospitality and the warmth of its people through stays in rural accommodations and the cuisine of Garrotxa. Additionally, the volcanic richness of its soil allows for the cultivation of a gluten-free pseudocereal, buckwheat, which has been celebrated at the Buckwheat Fair since 2006.
