Two well-differentiated sectors can be distinguished: on the right bank of the Brugent rises the steep slope of the Puig del Moro mountain range, bounded by the limestone cliffs that, a little further on, make up the lofty Far cliff; on the left bank, on the contrary, the mountainous relief is more stepped and with gentler valleys such as the Cogolls valley, bounded to the east by the Serra de les Medes, southern buttress of the Serra de Finestres. The head of the Aiguavella or Vallac valley, the valley of the Clot de les Banyes stream and the village of les Encies are also within the municipal area.
The churches of Santa Maria de les Encies, Sant Cristòfol de Cogolls, Sant Cristòfol de Les Plaines and Sant Pere Sacosta are noteworthy. Hostoles Castle and Puig-alder Castle are two of the most important Remcian vestiges in the area.
