Right at the edge of the Garrotxa we find some spectacular landscapes and small towns of great beauty which, despite being outside the administrative limits of Garrotxa, they are still worth a visit.

Beget

A picturesque and charming village, a real architectural monument located in Alta Garrotxa, but since 1969 it belongs to the municipality of Camprodon. Its houses and stone streets are stepped over the river, crossed by two medieval bridges.

Beget’s stamp is the church of Sant Cristòfor, one of the most beautiful Pre-Pyrenean Romanesque buildings in the area.

Inside you can see the Majesty, a large polychrome wood carving that has been preserved intact since the 12th century.

It can be accessed from Oix through an asphalted forest track, or on foot following the trails of Itinerànnia.

Banyoles

15 minutes from Mieres we find Banyoles, the capital of the Pla de l’Estany region, a Pinoresque town for its lake, the largest in Catalonia, which is nourished – it and its entire lake basin – by underground water which come from Alta Garrotxa.

Banyoles also stands out for its range of sports and leisure activities, closely linked to the lake.

Rupit i Pruit

Rupit i Pruit is a municipality made up of two towns that retain all their medieval charm and that form part of the typical landscape of Collsacabra.

To the south of Rupit we find part of the Collsacabra cliff and origin of the town of Rupit where there is a spectacular view of the Guilleries, the Montseny and the neighboring cliffs (Tavertet, Avenc and Far). In this area there is the Romanesque church of Sant Joan de Fàbregues, the Sallent jump (homonymous with the Vall d’en Bas), and the Agullola, the natural monument visible from the entire cliff.

To the north, in the lands of Pruit, made of meadows and hills, the view extends over the Vall d’en Bas. From here you can take old paths, such as the Camí Ral and the GR-2, which take us along 15th century stone shortcuts towards Olot and France.
