The population is made up of several villages: el Quer, les Ferreries, Dosquers, Bruguers, Jonqueres, Llorenç and Pocafarina.

In Maià de Montcal we can find the church of Sant Vicenç, a temple dated to the year 978 which, in addition to having a rectangular nave and a circular apse oriented to the east, preserves an admittedly curious bolt on the door entrance On the other hand, Santa Magdalena de Maià (thirteenth century), church of the old priory of Santa Maria de Jonqueres (thirteenth century) located on the eastern edge of the Garrotxa, at the top of Santa Magdalena, and which has a nave pointed barrel vault and with an apse with a quarter-circle vault.

It is also worth noting the church of Sant Martí (12th century), located in the center of Dosquers, with a single nave covered by a barrel vault and semicircular apse, and the chapel of Sant Prim and Sant Felicià, next to which there there is an abundant spring, which according to tradition gushed to quench the thirst of the bearers of the relics of the saints in the monastery of Sant Pere de Besalú.
