We will leave Besalú by crossing the magnificent medieval bridge (Pont Vell), which spans the Fluvià River, and climb up the mountain to Puig Coronador.
We will pass through Sant Ferriol, and from there descend almost to the banks of the Fluvià River, which we will follow upstream towards Argelaguer. Before reaching this small village, we will pass by the Guilar Sanctuary.
From Argelaguer we will continue upstream through Garrell Park until we reach Sant Jaume de Llierca, the final point of this stage.
Attention MTB rider
At Mas Pitré, before the property sign, we take a track to the left, thus avoiding a non-cyclable section of the Volta a peu.
The ascent to Sagrat Cor is done along the track, as the path up is not rideable.
From Sagrat Cor to Sant Ferriol we always follow the main track, leaving it only 100 m before reaching the sanctuary, where we encounter a technical descent section.
From Sant Ferriol we descend along the track.
We climb to Mare de Déu del Guilar along the main track, thus avoiding non-cyclable sections of the Volta a peu.
We descend from Guilar following the same track as the ascent and soon reconnect with the Volta a peu.
