The hermitage of Sant Aniol d’Aguja, hidden in the heart of Alta Garrotxa, is one of those places that feels untouched by time. Surrounded by towering cliffs, it offers a wild and authentic experience that is hard to find elsewhere. The path leading there follows the Sant Aniol stream, crossing pools and footbridges along a route that is more than just a hike — it is a full immersion in nature at its purest.

Reaching it, however, is not a casual visit. Sant Aniol d’Aguja lies at the end of a long and demanding route that starts in Sadernes, where you must leave your vehicle. For much of the year, advance booking is required in order to park, as this is the starting point of the route. From there, the journey continues entirely on foot, in a remote environment with no phone coverage, no drinking water, and no services, where conditions can change quickly. It is essential to be well prepared, with enough water, proper equipment and awareness of the environment.

This remoteness is precisely what makes Sant Aniol so special. It is not a place to be rushed, but to be experienced with respect and calm. Planning your trip carefully, checking information in advance and adapting to your own abilities are all part of the experience. Only then can you fully enjoy one of the most emblematic yet fragile places in La Garrotxa — a destination that rewards the effort with a deep connection to nature.

Before starting the route, it is highly recommended to visit the information centre at the Rectoria de Sadernes, located next to the parking area. There, you can discover the essence of the Alta Garrotxa landscape and gain a deeper understanding of the environment before beginning to explore it.
